Budget Buys - Defenders

Updated: Jul 28, 2022

Here is a list of low priced defenders that are worth a look to boost up your bench.

Goalkeepers and Defenders are the only areas in Fantasy Premier League have starting values of £4.0. This is usually for a reason, and that is because these players, at the time of listing, were unlikely to start. But things always change in FPL. Kids can impress enough in pre-season to be given chances in the first team, transfers can happen to other Premier League teams, and there's always the case of injuries and other absences to help these players get a run out in the first team. One of these has already happened this season and in this article we will look at this and other potential bargains......

“We may not be talking John Lundstram territory here, but this attacking fullback has the potential to be a bargain player for FPL managers this season.”

£4.0 Defenders

Neco Williams

Neco has recently made the switch from Liverpool to newly promoted Nottingham Forest. Having impressed during a Loan spell at Fulham in the 2nd half of last season. The player had some decent attacking returns from the fullback position with 2 goals and 2 assist in 14 games for the Cottagers. Forest shelled out £17 million plus add ons for his services, which suggests he wasn't signed to be a back up and with his first World Cup coming up, the Welshman will surely be motivated to perform this season. We made not be talking John Lundstram territory here, but this attacking fullback has the potential to be a bargain player for FPL managers this season.

Kenedy/Emerson?

Firstly where is Emerson on the FPL site? Fingers crossed he will pop up later, moderately priced. Now to Kenedy, who IS up for selection on FPL and is priced at just £4.0. He was on loan back home at Flamengo last season until he was recalled in January by Tuchel to provide back up for the injured Chilwell, which shows that his coach does have some faith in him to perform in the Premier League. This versatile player has featured along with Emerson in Chelsea's games this summer. Both are likely to feature next season as a result of the probable departure of long serving club captain Cesar Azpilicueta and the highly touted possible departure of Marcus Alonso, both to Barcelona. If these 2 players leave and are not replaced this window, Kenedy and Emerson are the next senior back ups for the Wing Back positions. Let's hope Emerson is as cheap as Kenedy - who has the potential to be a great bargain for FPL managers this season.

Nathan Patterson

The young Scot has been given a run out in Everton's preseason games this summer, in the absence of injured club captain Shamus Coleman. Whilst most of the results have not been that good, the up to £11 million signing from Rangers made 2 assists from the right in a recent friendly win over Blackpool. A tricky opening fixture away against Chelsea is offset by Everton's favourable next 4 Premier League fixtures. With Coleman set for a spell on the sidelines and turning 34 in October, Patterson is surely guaranteed minutes this season in the right wing back slot.

Stay tuned for more updates on any further min priced players that the FPL Coach identifies.
